A song inspired by the future Mr & Mrs Charles & Lilliana Barrios.
Songwriter
Mmy name is Chris Gomez. Im a songwriter from Houston, TX. However, a good amount of folks know me from the RGV. Recently, I also started OjaLa, a norteno group here in Houston, with my cousin Jesse.
Story behind the song
I was going through a crappy and sad point in my love life when the inspiration for this song came along. I was beginning to contemplate writing, "The Chronicles Of My Crazy Love Life". My long time, childhood friend and school mate Charles Barrios, called me and told me he was getting married. Around this same time, a friend of mine criticized me for never writing love songs about love instead of heartbreak. When I heard the news, I felt something within me. I felt the need to write what I imagined Charles felt. I told Charles I was going to write him and Lilly a song. I don't know if he believed me or not but maybe, that same night, around 2-3am, I closed my eyes, sat at my keyboard, and started playing with some notes. I pictured them standing face to face, hand in hand, with love bursting at the seams. I could hear Charles tell her these very words, in the church, before God, their family and their friends. I saw myself at that church. I heard him say those words.
I called Charles when I finished the rougher live cell phone version and left it on his voicemail. He was surprised I had kept my word. I was glad they enjoyed their song.
This is the kind of the formula I use to write a lot of my songs. The music is very simple, the lyrics are cotidiana. This is still not the final version. I am adding other instruments to it. This was just a piano and minor string version so Charles and Lilly could hear what it sound like in mp3 format, instead of "voicemail format" LOL
Enjoy!
Lyrics
Hoy pongo mi vida
Dentro de tus manos
Te entrego mis dias
Porque yo te amo
Hoy frente nuestras familias
Haremos un pacto
Donde tu vida y la mia
Caminan a un solo paso
Hoy te prometo mi vida
Haz lo que quieras de ella
Tan solo con ver tu sonrisa
Me aseguro que todo nos ira bien
Hoy te prometo cuidarte
Por el resto de mis dias
En ti yo encuentro alegria
Por ti todo lo daria
Hoy te prometo mis dias
Y con ellos mis noches
Hoy te prometo mi vida
Amarte por siempre
